sweltering test shots

the boy toying with the lighting. it was too hot to do much last night, but i begged him for photos. i feel like this looked cooler in daylight.

we went out on a date last night. the punk refused to tell me where we were going so i went into shit-shock trying to find an outfit to wear. trashed my closet. settled on this because it looks...grown up, i suppose? and a little generic. almost stepfordish.

aquavit was divine, however, and well worth the wait, and the subsequent stroll around the west side and onto the frying pan was wonderful. it was simply too hot to do much else. so i whined until we went home.

i styled my hair without detangling it and ironed my pants and even wore makeup. while applying it and waiting for the boy to pick me up, it made me realize i'm terribly fearful of doing close ups here because of my skin. i took some photos yesterday as it was a friend's last day of work\. everyone was beaming and tipsy and all the shots of me were very uncomfortable for me to look at. needless to say, they will not be going up on facebook! i think it's the heat, so i'll be working on my skin AND my body this summer. woot! bikram is gonna sort me out...i'm freaking terrified.

anything great happen this weekend?

dinner and a show

went out to dinner at primehouse (freaking ace) and got all gussied up. or as gussied up as i could in 20 minutes. then i had the stroke of genius to put makeup on. this is perhaps my 3rd or 4th foray into the world of cosmetics. i fail.
anyway, i put on eyeshadow, which i proceeded to get all over my face. then i put mascara on. easy, yeah? fool-proof, even. all you do is brush it on your lashes. i bought a waterproof drugstore brand and put on two coats. i read somewhere that you can do that, so i figured i'd give it a shot, since i wear glasses and wasn't wearing anything else.
cut to the end of the night and i can now NOT get the damn mascara off. i rinsed and scrubbed and tugged at my lashes as gently as i could, trying to persuade the gunk off my eyes (it did still look good by the way, even wet). i googled the problem and found that one could remove makeup with baby oil. i have none AND there was a partial statement as follows:

"I used to use baby oil to remove my waterproof mascara in my 20s. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm paying the price..."

i clicked, hoping to find out what the potential price was, because i certainly didn't want to pay it. i mean i was already practically blinded.  dead link, so i went and grabbed some baby oil and two cotton balls and trying to gently massage the evil paint off my lids. the cotton balls fuzzed and i ended up with cotton fibers all over my lashes, which served to not only blind me, but also get the oil in my eye. tried to flush that out, but ended up with some mysterious oily film on my left eyeball. WTF. i decided to go to bed and pray that my body would repair the needless damage. i can NOW see clearly out of my left eye, thank goodness, but might be backing off from the makeup adventures for awhile.

in other news, i LOST a follower, lol. i wonder what happened? was it something i said?
still confused as to what this following business is for.

jacket: iisli
top: express (i've worn this exactly 3x in the past 3 years despite the impeccable fit)
skirt: random, not sure
shoes: miu miu (most comfortable heels i own); i bought these BEFORE the clog craze.
belt: enzo angiolini
bag: $1 at the nashua salvation army; total score

the modern

for dinner at the modern i decided to go very traditional with this betsey johnson dress. i got it a few years ago for about $45. since then, i've worn it to nearly every formal event i've been to. it's the perfect shape and the texture is amazing. fits like a dream.

dress: betsey johnson
pumps: nicole miller
blazer: firma

thought this was kind of fun:

gold tones

watch: graduation gift
diamond band: valentine's gift
gold/garnet ring: gift from dad
gold knuckle ring: recent gift :-)

very laid back dinner at country in the carlton hotel--they gave me my very own candle as it got a bit too 'intimate' (read: dark) in the room--, followed by drinks at raines law room, rounded out by a very long subway ride. :-(. damn outerborough living. *sigh*. i managed to contain my hair for the photo, but it was a little too dark to actually make an impression. it's always really interesting the looks people give me when i'm out in a place that defies my age/race/cultural appearance. an older white couple seemed to have quite a bit of difficulty not staring, lol.
i love this shirt and it's giant pocket.

shirt: adrienne vitadini
vest: ter et bantine
pants: maison martin margiela
shoes: cydwoq 'office'
scarf: street vendor, nyc
